Flexible Accommodation Consolidates Power in Summer: Holiday Apartments Lead Growth in July

The pulse of the Spanish tourism summer has been beating strongly in the extra-hotel sector, which closed July with 24.3 million overnight staysThis represents a solid growth of 3,8% compared to the same month of the previous year. This dynamism not only reflects a robust summer season, but also consolidates the long-term trend of expansion, surpassing the previous month's growth by 6,7% the figures recorded in July 2019, before the pandemic.

The main protagonist of this dynamism has undoubtedly been the segment of the tourist flats. With a total of 13.9 million overnight staysThis form of Flexible Accommodation has experienced an impressive increase of 6,1% year-on-year, confirming its position as the preferred option for a large proportion of travellers. The campsites have also contributed positively, with 8.2 million overnight stays and a growth of 1,5%while the rural tourism has maintained its attractiveness with a slight increase of 0,4% y 1.4 million stays. The only discordant note was the hostels, which registered a slight decrease of 1.8%.

International demand reaffirms itself as the main driver of this growth. Of the 24.3 million overnight stays, 15 million were accounted for by non-resident travellers, compared with 9.3 million of residents in Spain. This strong traction of the foreign market underlines the global attractiveness of the Flexible Accommodation Spanish.

Geographically, the distribution of success has been diverse. The Valencian Community has positioned itself as the leader in tourist flats, with 2.8 million overnight staysCatalonia has been the most popular destination for campsites, accumulating 2.8 million stays. Y Asturias has excelled in rural tourism, with 209,103 overnight staysdemonstrating the richness and variety of the extra-hotel offer throughout the territory.

This growth in volume does not come alone. The Extra-Hotel Accommodation Price Index (IPEXTRA) has registered a increase of 4.2% in July. This increase in the value of stays, coupled with the rise in occupancy, paints a picture of a healthy sector, capable of attracting more travellers while improving its profitability. These figures are a testament to the diverse and resilient power of the Flexible Accommodation in Spain, which is consolidating its position as a key player in the summer tourism economy.
