Spain surpasses its own peaks: Tourism reaches an all-time high with almost 86 million visitors and soaring expenditure

The vitality of tourism in Spain has reached a new level of excellence, surpassing even the most optimistic projections. The accumulated data up to October 2025 reveal a historic milestone: the country has received 85.7 million international tourists, a figure that not only represents a increase of 3,5% compared with the same period of the previous year, but already 1.6% more visitors than the total number of visitors registered for the whole of 2019., before the pandemic.

But the real indicator of success lies not only in the volume of arrivals, but also in the quality of spending. During these ten months, the total expenditure of international tourists has reached the impressive figure of 101.4 billion euros, which is a increase of 15.3% compared to 2024. This growth in spending, which is much higher than the number of visitors, is a clear sign that the strategy of attracting higher value-added tourism is bearing fruit.

The main issuing markets continue to show great loyalty to Spain. The United Kingdom leads the ranking with 17.3 million tourists, followed by France (10.9 million) and Germany (9.9 million). The average expenditure per tourist stood at 1,183 euros11,4% more than in the same period of the previous year, while the average daily expenditure has increased by 7,8%, to the 182 euros.

This extraordinary performance of the tourism sector has a direct and positive impact on its entire value chain, and especially on the tourism sector. Flexible Accommodation. The massive arrival of travellers, with increasingly diverse profiles, boosts the demand for tourist flats, student residences, coliving and other modalities that offer an alternative to traditional hotels.

The strength of tourism not only fills hotels and flats; it also boosts commerce, restaurants, transport and leisure, consolidating itself as a fundamental pillar of the Spanish economy. These historic figures are not a point of arrival, but a starting point to continue working on a more sustainable, diversified and high quality tourism model, which will continue to position Spain as the world's favourite destination.

The next edition Vitur Summit 2026 will take place in Malaga on Thursdays 13 and 14 May and will once again be the meeting point for operators, investors and companies in the sector to boost their business, establish strategic alliances with the different agents involved and gain access to all the latest news, trends and opportunities in the sector from leading speakers and companies.
